Acceptable Use Policy

Version 1.3 — Effective July 30, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs use of the Off Earth Data Service and is incorporated into the Terms of Service. Capitalized terms have the meanings given there. We may suspend or terminate access for violations as described in the Terms (7 days' notice; immediate for severe violations).

1. Rate Limits

API rate limits and quotas are enforced per tier. You may not circumvent, probe, or attempt to circumvent rate limits — including by rotating API keys, distributing requests across accounts, spoofing request identity, or exploiting endpoints that appear unmetered. Automated access must stay within the stated quotas of your tier; scraping the Service at speeds exceeding your quota is prohibited regardless of the mechanism used.

2. Data Use and Redistribution

• You may use data obtained from the Service for internal analysis and, on paid and enterprise tiers, in derivative analysis you distribute (reports, models, visualizations) provided the derivative work does not substitute for the Service itself.
• You may not resell, republish, or redistribute raw data obtained from the Service. Raw redistribution requires an enterprise license addendum.
• You may not use the Service to harm companies tracked in our data — including defamation, harassment, or market manipulation based on Service data.

3. API Keys and Accounts

• API keys are issued per user or per team within a single organization. Sharing keys across organizations is prohibited.
• Do not embed API keys in public client-side code or public repositories. Rotate any key you believe is exposed and notify security@offearthdata.com.
• One person or system of record per account; do not create accounts by automated means or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.

4. Reverse Engineering and Security Research

Reverse engineering, decompiling, or attempting to derive the non-public structure, source code, scoring methodology internals, or underlying datasets of the Service is prohibited, except to the extent such a restriction is not permitted by applicable law.

Good-faith security research is welcome under coordinated disclosure:

1. Report suspected vulnerabilities to security@offearthdata.com before any public disclosure.
2. Do not access, modify, or exfiltrate data belonging to other customers; use test accounts wherever possible.
3. Do not degrade the Service (no denial-of-service testing, no automated fuzzing of production endpoints beyond trivial volumes).
4. Give us a reasonable period (90 days by default) to remediate before publishing.

Research conducted under these rules will not be treated as a violation of this AUP, and we will not pursue legal action for it.

5. General Prohibitions

You may not use the Service to violate any applicable law or regulation (including export controls and sanctions), to infringe third-party rights, to distribute malware, or to interfere with the integrity or performance of the Service or its infrastructure.

6. Reporting Abuse

Report suspected abuse of the Service, exposed keys, or violations of this policy to security@offearthdata.com. We investigate all reports and may act on them as described in the Terms of Service.
